Welcome

Tony Rojas, GWEF Chair, 2009-10Thank you for your interest in the Georgia Water Environment Federation (a Section of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals, a 501-C-3 not for profit organization). Included on this website, you will find information designed to enhance your professional career and to broaden your understanding of the wastewater field in Georgia. We have endeavored to make this site a useful and dynamic source of up-to-date information.

GWEF provides education and training opportunities for people working primarily in the wastewater field, and we are continually expanding and enhancing our services to our membership, other elected officials, the media, and the public.

GWEF has been affiliated with GAWP for nearly all of its 75-year history. The two organizations were formed within four years of each other, and since their affiliation have worked together to make both associations stronger. In 1928, an organizational meeting of the Board of Control of the Federation of Sewage Works Associations (now the Water Environment Federation) was held. In 1936, The Georgia Water and Sewage Plant Operators’ Association (now GAWP) became an official Member Association of the Federation.

In order to accomplish our mission, GWEF has established the following committees: Wastewater Treatment Committee, Collection Systems Committee, Industrial Committee, and the Pretreatment Committee.

In addition, GWEF appoints representatives to GAWP committees such as Legislative, Public Education, Membership, Program, etc. which work with all of the Sections to accomplish goals common to GAWP.

Our dedicated volunteers and talented GAWP staff make GWEF one of the strongest and most influential WEF Member Associations. In 2004, GWEF/GAWP won WEF’s first Outstanding Member Association Award which makes us the top WEF MA in the nation.

Thank you for visiting and please let us know how we can better serve you!
